Embracing God’s Nearness: The Word Became Flesh - Devotional
Draw closer to the heart of God today and see how Jesus meets you right where you are.
😊☀️👋🏻 Good morning, friend!
Pastor Blake here, welcoming you to a new week of devotionals. As we wind down the year, it can be easy to feel stretched between reflecting on the past and looking ahead to what’s next. But today, let’s pause to remember the profound truth that God came near—truly near—in Jesus Christ. This reality can anchor our hearts through any season.
Let’s transition now into Today’s Devotional to explore how John’s Gospel reminds us of the intimate love of our incarnate Savior.
🙏 HUMBLE
Begin this time pondering the following questions:
What are you thankful for today?
What burdens, fears, or areas of sin do you need to release to God today?
Now, let’s ask God to help us find HOPE in Him today:
“Lord, open my heart and mind to Your Word today. Help me to see the hope You have for me in these pages. Shine Your light on every truth, and guide me to understand, trust, and apply what You reveal. May Your presence transform my heart and fill me with the hope only You can give. Amen.”
📖 OBSERVE
Now, let’s observe what God has to say in His Word:
Today's Readings:
READ: John 1:14-18 (NLT)
Today's Devotional:
In this passage, we see the sweeping statement that “the Word became human and made his home among us.” This one truth—that Jesus, the eternal Word, willingly took on flesh—reveals God’s heart in a powerful way: He doesn’t stand at a distance but draws close, bringing grace upon grace to the world.
We often feel we need to reach upward in our own strength, but here God shows He’s the one reaching down. Through Jesus, we glimpse a God who is full of unfailing love and faithfulness, giving us not only moral teaching but a living example of compassion, humility, and sacrifice.
For us today, this means we can stop striving to be “good enough” to ascend to God. Instead, we trust that He’s come down to us, right where we are. As we enter the final days of the year, let’s rest in the reality that we’re loved and welcomed by a God who fully understands our humanity—because He became one of us.
Reflection Questions:
What stood out to you from these passages?
What does this teach us about God, His character, and what He does?
What does this teach us about people, including yourself?
💡 PERSONALIZE
Now to make this personal in your life, consider this question:
What is one area where God is encouraging you to grow or change?
